Let's get down to business...
Much have been said about Chinese automaker Geely's acquisition of a 49 per cent stake in local brand Proton - former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he cried after the news broke - but apparently, the carmakers have hit the ground running.According to a report by Malaysia's leading auto site Paultan.org, both Geely and Proton are hard at work designing its first ever SUV.
The site reported that the SUV will most likely be based on Geeling's best-selling model, the pretty legit-looking Boyue.
The Boyue was reportedly designed by a former Volvo designer who goes by the name of Peter Horbury, who apparently also heads several of Geely's design studios around the world.
Under the hood, the 4.5-meter long Boyue comes in a variety of engines, highlighted by a 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated unit and a 1.8-litre turbo version, according to Paultan. It comes with a six-speed manual transmission or a dual-clutch automatic transmission, depending on which model you choose.
In the inside, the Boyue actually comes packed with a whole lot of toys: an eight-inch monitor, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility and a unique feature where it allows the Boyue to match the highway speed of the car in front of it.
However, nobody has any idea how much of the Boyue's influence we'll see in the upcoming Proton SUV, but if it's anything like the original (LOL, can't believe we're using that word on a China-made product), we are pretty stoked.
