So to help ease the pain, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is testing out a new app called eDrive that enables road users to check the traffic situation and plan their journey better.
Currently on a two-month test run, eDrive is now available for download on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
However, at the moment, the app doesn’t cover all roads in the city and only zooms into roads that are normally congested, including Jalan Mahameru, Jalan Syed Putra and the KL-Seremban Highway.
In the app, users are able to see real-time images of the roads from 40 stationary cameras to find out which roads are congested.
The app also has another feature that is perfect for those who absolute loathes looking for parking in crowded malls.
eDrive's Parking Guidance Information System allows you to check the availability of parking spots at 14 malls in KL, including Suria KLCC, Pavilion, Low Yat Plaza and Maju Junction.
This way, you can start looking for parking before leaving your home and in case you're not in luck, you can opt for public transportation instead and save yourself the trouble of going round and round the parking lot.
Other than that, there is also an option to report road issues or incidents, such as faulty traffic lights, potholes, accidents and floods.
DBKL's new app is part of the Integrated Transportation Information System (Itis), which is essentially a traffic surveillance system.
Launched in 2002, the system is integrated with 140 Variable Message Signs (VMS) and 1,000 CCTVs covering up to 200km of roadways.
