Malaysia Plans To Make Vaccination A Compulsory Requirement Before Enrolling In Preschool

The move is said to help curb the spread of contagious diseases among children.
Malaysia will try to adapt to this requirement to emulate the system carried out in various countries around the world such as Australia.
“The issue has been discussed at the ministry level with relevant agencies although our stand now is still education and counselling on the need to vaccinate children,” Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam told the New Straits Times.
"We are looking into Australia's practice where only vaccinated preschoolers can be enrolled.”
Subramaniam stressed that this action is anything far then being discriminatory but only as a measure to prevent the spread of contagious diseases.
According to statistics from the ministry, about 1,600 children failed to receive vaccination in 2016, as compared to 1,500 in 2015.
The National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) also supports the government motion to make vaccination compulsory as a requirement to enroll for preschool.
