Last week was a great week for our athletes and para athletes as they all had a triumphant feat at the World Aquatics Championships and the World Para Athletics Championships.

And it looks like we’ll be adding another sporting accomplishment to the books as our mixed doubles pair, Olympic medalist Chan Peng Soon and his young protégé, Cheah Yee See have won the Russian Open after beating Japan.

Peng Soon and 21-year-old Yee See smashed Japan’s Keiichiro Matsui-Akane Araki with 11-8, 13-11, 11-3 during the finals in Vladivostok on Sunday.

Congratulations!
This is Peng Soon’s second title after winning it previously in 2015 with Goh Liu Ying. For Yee See, this is her biggest achievement to date.

Yee See filled up Goh Liu Ying’s shoes after she suffered a shoulder injury and could not recovered on time for the tournament.

Peng Soon seemed very happy with their progress and is glad that to see that Yee See is coping under pressure.

“I’m happy that we won our first title together. I’m also pleased with Yee See’s level so far,” Peng Soon told The Star.

The 29-year-old Olympic silver medalist hopes to keep the momentum for their next tournament together, the New Zealand Open this August.

We wish our national shuttlers all the best and good luck!
